VES hosted a special guest in Langhorne Chapel today. Alan Williams, author of the book Walk-On: Life From the End of the Bench, shared his story with the student body.

Williams was a four-year walk-on to the Wake Forest basketball team. After being a star in high school, he was reduced to a bench warmer in college.

Williams delivered an inspiring message of service, dedication, commitment and faith. He encouraged the VES students to be both humble and bold. “Take your eyes off of yourselves,” was Williams’ petition, so that every person could seek another he or she might serve.

After the chapel service, Williams joined the students at lunch where he signed books and fielded questions for those interested.
