One of the highlights of the VES social calendar is the yearly Lynchburg Club Dinner and this year was no exception. This sold out event featured the first time a VES alumnus would address the crowd. The alumnus chosen was Mr. William Harrison, Jr. ’62. Mr. Harrison is the former Chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase. Before Mr. Harrison spoke to the Lynchburg Club, he graciously spent some time earlier in the day speaking to the VES community in Langhorne Memorial Chapel. He gave some insight into his past and what it took for him to become the success that he eventually became. He passed some common sense advice to the community as to what it will take for them to succeed in life. Take a chance was one of his tidbits as he related that he had taken a chance early in his own life. After graduating from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, he decided to move to New York for a training program. After the two year program was complete, he took a chance and stayed in New York to find work rather than move back to Rocky Mount, North Carolina and work in his grandfather’s bank. That decision helped set the series of events that led him to the top of his profession.
VES was proud and honored to have Mr. Harrison on campus.
